Clyde 1-1 Celtic Colts

Tue, 23rd Nov 2021 11:50pm

The Bully Wee picked up a point in their opening 2021-22 City of Glasgow Cup tie, with David Goodwillie scoring from the spot in stoppage time against Celtic Colts.

Danny Lennon changed his entire starting line-up from Saturday’s victory over East Fife, with Kevin Nicoll wearing the captain’s armband.

Clyde had two good chances in the opening minutes; Robert Jones saw his curling shot held by Conor Hazard, whilst Owen Andrew’s effort went just past the post.

The Celtic youngsters then came into the game and Joey Dawson’s strike came off the crossbar. Tsoanelo Letsosa then dragged an effort across the face of goal, and Joshua Bradley-Hurst was called into action just before the interval to save from Brody Paterson.

Six minutes after the restart Euan Deveney struck the bar from a volley, but a minute later the deadlock was broken up the other end. The ball fell to Ben Wylie in the box, and he slotted into the corner of the net.

David Goodwillie was introduced in the closing stages and with two minutes of normal time remaining he was sent through on goal but was wiped out by Hazard. The contact looked to take place just outside the box but referee Chris Gentles pointed to the penalty spot and showed the ‘keeper a red card. After a lengthy delay the striker sent replacement goalkeeper Ryan Mullen the wrong way and converted from 12 yards out.

Clyde barely had a chance to make their numerical advantage count as the referee surprisingly blew his final whistle shortly after despite the aforementioned stoppage, meaning both sides had to settle for a point.
