Clyde 1-3 Falkirk

Sat, 30th Oct 2021 8:27pm

The Bully Wee's string of losses continued this afternoon as Falkirk picked up all three points at Broadwood.

Danny Lennon made four changes to the side from last weekend's defeat in Cove, with Mark Docherty, Jonathan Page, Paul Kennedy and Rob Jones all returning.

The Bairns had the first opportunity of the afternoon when Craig McGuffie cut inside and hit a shot from distance, which dipped just over the bar.

Mark Docherty then created a chance for David Goodwillie from a throw-in. The striker took the ball past a Falkirk defender but goalkeeper Paddy Martin turned his shot behind for a corner.

Neil Parry then made a good save from Declan McDaid's effort, before Michael Ruth hit the crossbar from close range.

Ruth opened the scoring seconds before the interval. Paul Dixon's shot from outside the box was parried to the feet of Ruth, and he turned the ball home from close range.

Clyde almost equalised right after the break. Aaron Splaine fizzed a low cross into the goal mouth and Goodwillie was able to get a touch, but Martin made a vital save.

Moments later Rob Jones got on the end of Paul Kennedy's cross but his head went narrowly past the post.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 67th minute after McGuffie cut inside Marky Munro and Ross Cunningham, before curling a shot into the corner of the net.

Clyde pulled a goal back in the 74th minute from the penalty spot. Jones cushioned a header into the path of Cunningham who was bearing down on goal, and referee Euan Anderson deemed he was pushed by Steven Hetherington, who was shown a straight red card. Goodwillie made no mistake with an emphatic spot kick.

Jones then struck the crossbar with a strike from outside the area, and came close again with a header from Cunningham's cross.

Deep into stoppage time Clyde won a corner and Parry made his way into the Falkirk box. The Bairns however intercepted the cross and broke up field, with Charlie Telfer rolling the ball into the empty net.
