Goodwillie Reaches 100 Goals
Club captain David Goodwillie reached the milestone of 100 goals for Clyde after his brace on Saturday proved to be his 99th and 100th for the club.
Goodwillie’s first goals for the club came in an incredible comeback in 2017 when Clyde were trailing 2-0 to Elgin at half time, but a second half hat trick from David secured an incredibly important 3 points in a 3-2 win. He only found the net one more time that season in the final game to Montrose, as he headered in the opener during a 1-1 draw which helped the club avoid finishing in 10th place in League 2.
In his first full season at the club, David scored an impressive 27 goals throughout the campaign, before getting 22 goals the following year which helped Clyde secure promotion to League 1. The next two seasons were shortened, but Goodwillie still managed to get a total of 25 goals in 2019-20 and then 14 last season during a hectic fixture schedule.
The striker has got off to a great start again this year, with his double on Saturday taking his tally to 8 goals in 9 games and is only the eighth player to reach the 100 goal mark for Clyde.
Danny Lennon praised the forward’s fantastic achievement:-
“David is an absolute pleasure to work with. You just see how important he is to Clyde Football Club with him reaching that amount of goals in such a short period of time.
“Everytime you come across David and when he’s on the training ground he is an absolute pleasure. He’s a great personality, a great character and loved by everybody at this football club.
“The mark of the man is that we mentioned his 100th goal after the game on Saturday there, as it’s not an everyday thing that is achieved, and he stands up and apologises that it wasn’t 101!
“It’s a wonderful achievement for David.”
