Gordon Steps Up
The club is pleased to confirm that Gordon Thomson will move into the position as Chairman of the club with immediate effect.
Outgoing Chairman John Taylor explained:-
“Essentially this is a move which would have taken place a year ago had it not been for Gordon’s personal and professional circumstances at the time, so I’m delighted that he now feels ready to take on the role.
“This is part of a wider vision for the club going forward. Gordon has been an active and extremely supportive Vice Chair and has demonstrated he has the credentials, and the vision, to take the club forward. Gordon has the full backing of the entire Board and we look forward to helping him achieve his objectives for the club”.
Meanwhile Gordon stated:-
“I am delighted and honoured to become Chairman of the club. I have supported Clyde since I was brought to the games by my dad in the late 70s, then went along with a school mate in the early 80s and began following the club to all away matches as part of the Castlemilk Branch.
“Good times, hard times, highs and lows - there are not many emotions spared in being a Clyde supporter, but it is the club that I have always supported and I am excited at the opportunity this role presents.
“From being a contributor to the fanzine, Clyde View and website to becoming involved with the Supporters Trust, Community Foundation and eventually the Club Board, it has been a journey of many different experiences, good and bad. In addition until I stepped down in June, being a member of the SPFL Board presented me with further insight of the game. Therefore I believe I have gained the necessary experience and understanding required to take on this role and provide the appropriate leadership.
“Firstly though, I would like to thank John Taylor for his support and his work at the club. Much of his role goes unseen and he has had a very difficult period in trying to combine his operational role as General Manager while undertaking the position of Chairman. I am delighted that he is remaining on the Board in his capacity as Operations Director.
“There is a huge task ahead for us as a club and as supporters. I will speak more on that shortly, but suffice to say I believe that everything that we do has to have the sole objective of delivering sustained success on the pitch. This will be best achieved by utilising the skills, experience and knowledge of all of the support and this is what I want to see happen as we move ahead together, united for The Bully Wee".
The positions of Secretary and Vice Chairman will be confirmed at the next Board meeting and will be announced in due course.
