Broomhill 1-0 Clyde
The Bully Wee fell at the first hurdle of the SPFL Trust Trophy this evening, after a very disappointing loss against Broomhill in Alloa.
Danny Lennon rotated his squad and made nine changes from Saturday's game against Montrose, with Joshua Bradley-Hurst and Matthew Elsdon making their Clyde debuts, whilst there was also a first start for Kieran McGrath.
Robert Jones created some early issues for the home defence, getting on the end of two high balls and knocking down to Ally Love, whose effort from outside the box was deflected wide, and Ross Cunningham, who saw his low drive flash across the face of the goal.
Jones then showed good skill to knock the ball over the head of a defender but poked his effort just wide of target.
The hosts took the lead in the 21st minute when Ross Alexander was allowed space just inside the box, and side footed an effort past Bradley-Hurst.
Clyde made three changes at the interval and dominated the second half but were unable to convert any of their chances.
Jones saw his header from a corner saved by Broomhill 'keeper Stephen Barr, then the striker and Conrad Balatoni both had headers come off the crossbar.
Love had an opportunity in the box but was put under pressure by a host of home defenders, one of whom was able to block his goalbound effort.
As the match entered the closing stages Cunningham fired a low shot on target that had the 'keeper beaten but was inadvertently blocked by Jones, and Love had a rasping drive from distance tipped round the post by Barr.
